Market scene
Yesterday, Lin omitted an exit condition and enlarged his position on the spot, yet made money. His notes say “decisive, accurate judgment.” Zhe wrote his hypothesis, quantity, and exits beforehand, followed the exit plan, and lost. He wants to score himself zero.
If both repeat yesterday's behavior tomorrow, which habit deserves keeping? Can a PnL screenshot answer that?
Your decision
The two outcomes differ. Choose a recording method and examine what information it preserves or erases.
Observe the result
| Profit | Loss | |
|---|---|---|
| Complete advance process | Check for repeatable mechanisms; do not rush to add capital | Separate normal loss from invalidation |
| Gaps in advance process | Keep dangerous lucky examples and repair process | Repair process and inspect strategy issues too |
“Complete process” means checklist items are present. It guarantees neither a correct hypothesis nor a sufficiently good decision. It provides an entry for review, not a substitute for judgment.
The mechanism
Split one virtual trade into three stages: record hypothesis, evidence, invalidation, quantity, and time before entry; record actual execution and deviations during it; add net PnL, execution differences, and next research afterwards.
- Record information available beforehand
- Preserve the original plan
- Record actual actions during trading
- Evaluate process and outcomes separately afterwards
- Find repeated biases across multiple samples
This journal saves a plan before allowing one outcome addition. Four advance checks cover falsifiable hypotheses, invalidation/exit, risk budgets, and costs/data timing. Incomplete plans may still save because recording imperfect decisions is more useful than deleting them afterwards.
Data stays under the current browser origin. Copy Markdown from the page. Clearing storage, changing devices, or using another origin may lose access. This is neither an encrypted vault nor an immutable audit system. Record virtual exercises only—no keys, account details, or personal sensitive information.
What it is called
Real markets
Chapter 2 discusses information propagation. Record actual observation time and source; do not use later, fuller news versions to explain earlier decisions.
Chapter 4 shows follow-on buying pushing prices further. Keep the original holding horizon. A trade cannot become “long-term” while rising and a “short-term test” after falling.
The Chapter 15 incident shows a distinct order-system fault. Recording deviations distinguishes program actions, human decisions, and market outcomes rather than calling every loss a bad signal.
Hands-on
Save the plan first, then record outcomes. Store virtual practice only, without account details, keys, or sensitive personal data. Records remain in this browser under the same origin and are lost if browser data is cleared. No upload or cross-device sync.
Local records have not been read.
A complete process does not prove the economic thesis. Break-even and pending outcomes are excluded from the four cells. Browser timestamps are not immutable audit evidence. Concurrent tab edits may overwrite records; use one tab and export regularly.
No journal entries on this page. Read existing records or save the first plan.
View and manually copy Markdown
- Choose a virtual Chapter 31 or 33 experiment; write and save a plan before revealing results.
- Run it, select the saved plan, and add net PnL, actual actions, and deviation causes. Do not rewrite advance checks.
- Record another virtual decision with process gaps and inspect its quadrant. Flat and unfinished records are separate.
- Copy journal Markdown and check that plans and outcomes both remain. Define a testable next improvement rather than a slogan such as “be more careful.”

Record plans first, then actions and outcomes. Four quadrants preserve bad habits in winners and correct execution in losers. Complete templates still require evidence for economic hypotheses.
Fix bias labels: chasing prices, expanding loss allowances, early exit, omitted costs, hindsight data. Report total trades, missing records, and sample dates alongside frequencies. Do not infer causality solely from wins/losses. Turn repeated biases into testable improvements; see Advanced F.
Continue the project: measure decision and execution biases.
Daily reports address positions, risk, and execution faults; weekly reports examine expectancy, regimes, and drift; monthly reports reconcile active/directional returns, drawdowns, and correlations; quarterly reviews decide capital and research. Institutions also need identities, versions, trails, and review responsibility, none guaranteed by this local practice tool.
Continue the project: make distinct daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly decisions.
Questions to take away
Chapter self-test
No. Process information is more complete, but economic mechanisms, data, and OOS performance need independent validation.
Process gap and profit. Preserve it and repair the violation; profit cannot erase the gap.
Outcomes already exist and may influence memory. It cannot prove information or constraints actually existed then.
Not necessarily. Check saving status and copy a backup immediately after failure. Local storage can be cleared and is neither cross-device sync nor audit archiving.
One idea to take away
Score decision quality separately from outcomes. Outcome-only reviews mistake luck for skill and correct decisions for errors.
Record this learning session
Read means only that you confirm reading this chapter. Self-tests are your assessments against reference conclusions. Neither certifies mastery or professional level. Each click retains a timestamped local record.

Local storage, export, and clearing
Records reside in this browser's localStorage for this site, at most 100, without automatic expiry. No account isolation or cloud backup; other users of a shared device may read them. Edit in one tab: concurrent writes may overwrite. Export promptly. Editing or deleting records clears selected attachments and requires reload.
Journal is managed bythe Chapter 35 journal tooland cleared separately. Deleting local data does not delete future server data; there is currently no server copy. Storage rejection will not be reported as success. Copy this page's preview.
